December 15th, 2012:
To the Visitors and Members of the Carolina Rifles-Military Reenacting Assocaition
Reflecting back on 2011, this has been a year of transition and success
for our unit. In January we successfully conducted the first
150th Sesquicentennial event by recreating Major Anderson's move from
Fort Moultrie to Fort Sumter, with 110 reenactors in attendance.
The event earned high remarks and praise for us.
In
April we represented Battery B of the 1st South Carolina Artillery at
the "Firing on Fort Sumter" commemoration. We worked for four days on
living history demonstrations, cannon and infantry drills. We
were part of the first Confederate unit to occupy Fort Sumter.
For
November our Secretary Brian Sharp, coordianted "Over There" for
11-11-11, we had 18 reenactors representing different eras of the US
military from the Revolution to W W 2. Over 800 people visited
our program at Fort Moultire for the three days and we were highly
praised by the National Park Service and Ranger Dennis Birr.
In
December, we officially started our impression for the
Sesquicentennial, which is Company F, of the 17th South Carolina.
We will still help our friends with the S.C.A.R., Palmetto Battalion
and Armory Guards, but we are going to organize 1-4 events to
honor the Tramp Brigade and the 17th S.C. We welcome any support
and are still looking for new members. Our current impression
standards are valid until May, 2013 before the Mississippi Campaign.
Keep
checking back to this website and our Facebook page and the
schedules. We are going to be actively engaging in advertising,
recruiting, fund raising and event organizing. Our biggest focus
for 2012 will be the 150th events for June 16th (Tower Battery) at Fort
Lamar, August (2nd Manassas), Antietam (Maryland, My Maryland),
Fort Moultrie Timeline and the Kinston LH in December.
I
am looking forward to the events ahead and representing
the men of the 17th South Carolina. If you are
interested in joining our group please e-mail: gdeese@carolina-rifles.org
Signed,
Gregory A. Deese
President, C.R.M.R.A.
